Onto Esztergom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esztergom

Now here is a place worth stopping and visiting! One of the oldest towns in Hungary!.. located at the corner of the Danube where a bridge joins Hungary with Slovakia (Maria Valeria Bridge - destroyed by the Germans in 1944, rebuilt 2001) is the very picturesque cathedral and ruined castle of Esztergom. Formerly the capital of Hungary, it is still the seat of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary.

Gorgeous Esztergom by the Danube

Walking around the surrounds of the Cathedral you get a great view of Slovakia across the river as well as the town of Esztergom itself. Pop into the cathedral and you will find its nice & cool in the heat of Summer. Its really a nice day trip out to here if you want to spend some time out of Budapest.

Its a great walking town and you dont have to look too hard to find great Hungarian cuisine at very reasonable prices. After Mum dipped her feet in the Danube here we went off to enjoy some very nice lunch at one of my most favourite places to eat in Hungary: Csülök Csárda !http://www.csulokcsarda.hu/en/bemutatkozas.php

These guys are great and the food is wonderful! Dont go to Esztergom without stopping here and partaking of their great menu. (Say hi from us!) Mum and Ana were both impressed with the gorgeous dishes, one thing we all love about travelling in Europe.. the great food!!

We had such a great day in Hungary and even though the trip was rather short we managed to see a lot of things and really give Mum a good impression of what Hungary was like. She really enjoyed herself and for sure will want to come back here the next time she visits.
