Got the bus from Coogee to Sydney central, hopping off about half a mile from our hostel. We took a while to get there in the heat, passing through what looked like Kings Cross London to get there. Plenty of broken bottles, run down buildings, several drunks and a few ladies of the night working overtime.

The hostel was a good one, clean with friendly staff, and a free breakfast, and we had a room to ourselves(luxury that Tracey was pleased about).

Not a lot happened the first day, but we found a bar called The World which served cocktails in teapots, needless to say we enjoyed them a little to much.

Friday, then, was a washout, but I (Joe) managed to get out that evening to meet PK(AKA Paul Kember), but Tracey was suffering with a hangover. Pk and I went to a bar called Bourbon met someone he knew who took us to a club.......

0200hrs-I'm drunk, Tracey is wondering when the hell I will get back. Saturday we walked to Darling Harbour to visit the Aquarium-very good too, with sharks, octopus, sea horses, turtles, rays, seals, and other delights we've forgotten about since. On the way back we walked via the bridge thingy and a couple of buildings where they do Opera, then we cut back through the botanical gardens to catch a glimpse of the roosting flying foxes, which were very loud and very pretty.

Sunday we visited the Wildlife World which is similar to a zoo really, with just native Australian species. We touched Rhinoceros beetles which are as big as the one I discovered on my leg in Khao Sok, and praying mantis and held a black headed python. A good scene was at the enclosure shared by both wallabies and a lone casowary(a big bird the size of an emu with bright blue feathers and a horn on its head), where the casowary took exception to one of the wallabies and chased it round the enclosure for several minutes at about 30 MPH.

Afterwards we joined PK for drinks at a bar next to the wildlife world. We got caught in a downpour there and got wet feet.

Monday night we went to Bondi where PK was staying and he cooked a meal for us, and we all drank far too much red wine.

Tuesday we went to Taronga Zoo, and despite the hangover enjoyed it very much. Wednesday we pottered around, chilling out before we left for the magnificent blue mountains on Thursday.....
