San Diego
From My vacation before the East in San Diego, United States on Sep 06 '07
So, San Diego is a place I've always heard good things about and I have to say I like it so far. The weather is nothing short of perfect this time of year. Sunny skies and mid 70's with a great ocean breeze. Those of you who have been to California know what I'm talking about. It's a chill Monday as I have a nice breakfast at a place called Newbreak Coffee Co. (breakfast at noon of course) I arrived on Friday and finally have some time to myself to relax and catch up on the web. It's been non-stop since Thursday night, as that was my last night in Austin for who knows how long... my friend Cory picked me up from the Airport on Friday and said it's going to be a good weekend to be here. Something called ASR (Action Sports Retail) was here over the weekend so a lot of people from L.A. and other cities were in town for it. I can honestly say I thought I had died and gone to heaven seeing all of the modelesque girls running around.
Friday night we went downtown to catch a show by a ban named Unwritten Law - rock band that had really good energy - then went to a club called Stingaree which apparently isn't an easy one to get into. (I heard of an un-godly $23 cover on regular weekends or something like that) We were with some band members though and got in free and the place was pretty bad-ass. 3 story club, dance floor at the bottom, bars and more dance floor mid-level, and the top was on the roof, more bars and places to hang. Great night overall, lot of dancing and drinking and meeting random people. Crashed around 4 I think...
Saturday we went to check out the ASR thing at the San Diego convention center. Had a friend get us badges to check it out. It was mainly a showcase for major retail brands in the action sports industry. One of the cool things was that there were models all over the place, a lot of them wearing nothing but bikini's ... that was a nice touch :) We hung out there a while and then went back downtown that evening. We got hooked up again to get in free at a show at a place called 4th and B. Mickey Avalon and Dare Devil Jane were playing a show there which was pretty cool. Got to meet up with my friend Claudia from Austin who has just recently moved here. Again, got home and crashed around 4 am...
Sunday was a bit more laid back - got to sleep in and went to the beach in La Jolla, very nice area. Relaxed most of the day and ended up at a place called Long Boards that evening which has reggae there every Sunday night. I have to say that was a great place and cool atmosphere. Watched a band called the Devestators which I recommend anyone to check out if you like reggae.
I'm lookng forward to a lot of beach time this week and preparing myself for the crazy 14 hour flight to South Korea this Friday. I'll post my next blog entry when I touch down on Korean soil and have the time to write. (oh, and... I seemed to have lost my camera so unfortunately I won't have any pics to post until I find it or have the money to buy a new one... so lame)
