This last minute trip was planned, solely because the flights were .02 euro each (plus taxes made it about 25 euros) which is hard to beat! We hadn't heard much about this island except that it's beautiful. Max and I flew in Thursday night and checked into our cute little beachy hotel. Decor definitely had a Medietterranean feel to it. After a quick buffet breakfast the next morning, we headed out to see the old part of town. It was about a 10 minute walk along the gorgeous beach! White sand, blue water, and mountains in the background! The weather was nice but with a really chilly wind and cloudy skies. The old part of town was really cute and reminded me of Antibes, France. Full of little shops on cobblestone roads, lined with old fortress walls. Most were closed (Italian siesta time?) but we stopped at a character-filled cafe to have pizza for lunch! It was nice to have some variety in my diet. We slowly headed back to the hotel and actually got a lot of studying done. We have finals this week! We walked to one of the very few restaurants that was open (during winter this place shuts down). It was drizzling outside and really windy. We ate at Ramblas, had a great bottle of white wine (from the nearby vineyards) pizza and caprese salad. So good! Saturday we had to check out at 10 but our flight wasn't until 9pm...so we lugged our heavy backpacks around all day. We went back to the old town shopped for a few hours (bought cute new boots!) stopped to take plenty of pictures along the coast and had a few coffees at various cafes. We caught the bus to the airport, and our flight ended up being delayed two hours! Luckily we had lots to do, so I read for classes. The problem was that he had a bus scheduled at 1am to take him back to Sevilla. He ended up missing that and having to stay at my homestay (fortunately, my senora understood). We went to the Rastro the next day (a huge open market every Sunday) and bought a few gifts before he had to leave. We took the metro the bus station so he could buy his 2pm bus ticket. Apparently because of the holiday weekend all the Sevillans were returning that Sunday so every bus was full up until 6pm! He had to come back to my apartment once again, where Loty insisted on fixing us lunch. I finally said goodbye to him and he caught the bus back. I returned to finish up my studying! Overall, relaxing weekend before finals, minus the traveling part!
