A diamond in the rough?  Not quite.  This is the Hope Diamond. The crown jewel.  The big kahuna.  I hate to follow the grains of society and be like everyone else, but this is the real deal.  Yosemite has it all:  waterfalls, rock formations, endless hiking, rock climbing, tons of camping, big trees, little trees, wildlife, large landscapes.  You get the picture.  It is everything you have imagined and then more.  I'm not sure about Anne, but to me, Yosemite sets the standard for Nat'l Parks.  We did it injustice by spending only two days there.  Will we return?...Next question.  Yosemite is on the leader board for Nat'l Parks to return to.  I now know why it is my father's favorite and also understand why mom titled her piano piece "Yosemite Falls".  Whether you're an avid outdoorsman, or someone that prefers to live inside a sterile bubble, see this gem before they put you in the ground.  Consider it a regret if you don't.  Enough said.  Let the pictures do the talking.   bkh

The waterfalls will be lower at that time of year, but you should still make a trip to Yosemite. Summer is busy at this park; it is very popular. If you are camping, you could probably find some spots outside the main valley of the park. If you want hotel accomodations, I'd recommend looking for something sooner than later. As far as Vegas, it will never get my endorsement. However, if you have never been there, you should check it out. While there, make a side trip to Hoover Dam. It's worth while. I'm not sure how much time you have, or if you are physically active, but I would spend at least two days in Yosemite. If you're not an outdoor person (you should be--from oz), two days would be plenty for Yosemite. bkh

Very interesting comments. We are from Australia and my wife and I are planning to visit the west coast early in August next year. Our plans are to hire a car and drive from LA to Disneyland then to Yosemite then to Vagas. I guess the time of year for water in Yosemite is not optimal but we are locked in for the dates. Are there any issues with coming over early in August ie crowds, traffic or accommodation? How long should we plan withour trying to see everything. We then plan to go to the east coast. Any info would be appreciated as we have not been to the US before.
