Ok, so i probably shouldn't even have a blog for a place i only live about 4 hours away from, but i haven't being there in years.
when to visit one of my friends who is working there for a bit. cork people like to say that it's the real capital, and even though it is the second largest city in the republic it still is small enough to walk around without wearing the feet of ya. stayed in a hostel there, which was grand except for the only showers working were the ones on the top floor cause of renovations. it was really close to city centre though. the main reason we were there was to go on the beer and cork does not disappoint. there are some really good bars about but you do have to know where to find them. first few we went into were duds. the part of town for going out in is fairly compact so you can walk or stagger about. i won't say which one i was doing more of.

next morning feeling like crap, found one of the best breakfast places in the country. (well one of the locals told us where it was). it took a while to eat (ya wasn't feeling the best) but man was it good. i'd just like to put the disclaimer that it may not be as good as if you had it sober. a good sign for a place though it that it was packed.
after that we headed off to blarney, about 10 km outside cork, which has the famous blarney stone. this is a block up at the top of blarney castle which if you kiss it you get the gift of the gab. in order words you should be able to talk your way in or out of anything. the thing is though that it is underneath the parapert and you have to lie on your back and lean back to pucker up. sad to say that was the most action i got that weekend. The castle and grounds are cool enough, but i felt they could have so much of a better tourist experience. then it was back to cork to watch the Ireland V. France rugby game. since i'm not much of a rugby-head it did not bother me that much but cork is a big rugby town so the atmosphere was brilliant. ireland were leading with 30 seconds left in the game when France scored a try to win it. you could have heard a pin drop the place went so quite. i'm sure it ruined the weekend for many a one.

after that it was the non-eventful drive back to galway and the start of a new week.
