When I was in high school, I took two volunteer trips. One to Mexico and one to El Salvadore. While I don't remember any specific names of places or information, the purpose of this blog is to encourage would-be travellers to go to this facinating and beautiful country. We saw a gorgeous volcano in a sparkling countryside. We swam in lovely beaches with black sand that shone like onyx in the sun. We stayed in the homes of El Salvadorians, who were incredibly generous and kind. I remember iguanas sitting on my bed, having come in through the open window. The sound of tropical birds as I sat in the courtyard of my host's home, sipping mango juice and getting sick off of cheese (don't eat the cheese there!). I recall screaming through the busy streets of San Salvadore with crazy drivers. Walking in the big parks and plazas, the people so interested in us. Eating papoosas (the basic Salvadorian food...kind of like a savory pancake with different fillings). It was warm and alive. It was, in a word, Latin. So go.
