We travelled on the Shinkansen (For those who don't know - the Bullet Train) to Nagoya at 300 kph, passing stunning scenery, Japan is so rugged, but unfortunately Mt Fuji was completely shrouded in cloud - no idea when we actually passed by. We changed trains to continue our journey to Takayama, which is high in the Japanese mountains, and is a popular skiing destinaton. The scenery was so different to anything that we had seen before. So green,so rugged, so thick with spruce type trees with bamboo outcrops. Fast flowing rivers were crossed and followed.

Takayama is a beautiful city of about 95 000 people (not that it appeared that big), there is a delightful mix of the old and the new.

Fast flowing rivers were crossed and followed.

David and Toni really loved this place .. of all the places that they visited, this was probaly the best. I must admit it was probably my pick too!!
