Leaving the Hills Behind
From The Happy Chappies RV Tour in Lodi, United States on Aug 08 '07
After spending as much time as possible taking in Yosemite NP, we finally left the park and started the long descent down into San Francisco. On the way out of the hills, we stopped at a lake called 'Don Pedro'. There we saw the largest houseboat you will ever see - just take a look at the photo. Only in America, I guess.
But we still had one night left, so I checked us into an RV park on the Stockton delta - at a little place called Lodi. It was pleasant enough - on the water and a nice place to stay. The ladies cooked up most of the food left in the cupboard into a big savoury mince medley, and us men sat outside, debated the merits of the trip and drank some 'pylons'. That's the nickname I gave to the 24 Oz cans of Budweiser that John had become fond of. They are a serious investment in an afternoon drink, let me give you the word.
On the wind-down
We packed up the bags, cleaned out the trash and generally wound down from the trip. It was a great way to wind up- probably wiser than my original plan of another night in Yosemite and then a mad dash to the rental office.
In the morning we simply had breakfast, gave the rest of our food to our slightly bemused RV-neighbours - then had to go and ask for the sandwiches we made back - slightly embarassing. And then we drove into Oakland and dropped off the RV.
So I am finishing off this entry sitting in the departure gate of the airport at San Francisco. Like all good trips, it seems like an age since I left, and an age since the first day. And the 'real world' seems like a strange place to have to re-enter!
