Praia da Pipa and Olinda!
From Simon's South American Adventure! in Recife, Brazil on Aug 28 '07
After Jericoacoara, I moved to another small laid-back beach village called Praia da Pipa. This place was quite similar to Jeri in that there were loads of surfer types around, some good places to eat, and the beaches were lovely, except Praia da Pipa was a bit more developed and actually had cobbled streets instead of sand, and the shops were a lot more permanent and expensive.
We stayed in some pretty cool beach huts (although they weren´t actually on the beach) and most of our time in the village was spent sitting on the beach, watching some dolphins play in the water just off the bay, drinking lunchtime beers, and wandering along the coastline admiring the setting.
Chilled out beaches take 2!
We did have one night out where I typically ended up having one too many vodkas and the photos that some of the group have got of me are less than flattering, but it was a funny night out all the same!
After a few realxed days in Pipa we moved on to a place called Olinda. This city was much bigger than anywhere we´d been since around Belem, but it had a lot of character about it and the buildings were all brightly painted, which made it interesting to walk around. I have plenty of photos of the architecture!
Some of us ate at an amazing Italian restuarant in the city and it was probably the nicest meal I´ve had so far, so that´s one of my main memories from Olinda. There were loads and loads of nice churches as well, but because we were only staying here as a kind of stop-off, we didn´t see too much of the city. However, it was a really nice city and I enjoyed our short stay there. Next it was onto Salvador, the Afro-Brazilian capital of the country!
