The Season is over

The love for so many Aussies and Kiwi’s who have come over to Canada to live their dreams of skiing and riding big mountains totally covered in waist deep champagne powdered snow has sadly come to an end for most as the season at COP ends today.

Some who have never skied or snowboarded before have discovered a passion they enjoy, some have progressed ten fold and have become certified ski or snowboard instructors, while others have pushed their limits and as a result have ended up on the surgery table for broken arms, dislocated knees and even as extreme as breaking the largest bone in the body, the femur. Where as I was one of the lucky ones who survived the season intact with only a few minor bruises on my leg, hips, rip and the latest one near my crotch(Jesus that was close) from riding rails. But aside from the injuries everyone has met some amazing people and new friends that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. It has been a totally unique experience for everyone and to celebrate, it was the final party to end all parties - The End of Season Party. COP decided to keep it a bit mellow this year, no alcohol allowed but instead free Pizza and soft drinks, a magic show and some door prizes then 4 big party buses to bus everyone to the Drum & Monkey(a bar where we’ve came to know well because we have been there so much this season) .

Just watching the magic show felt like being at a 10 year old boy’s birthday party again. The card tricks were cool but nothing amazing, a little boy would have WOWED at it but for a bunch of grown ups this magician was given little respect. No one said WOW or applauded once he finished a trick and he definitely had a hard time working the crowd and getting volunteers. The pizza man came during one of the magic tricks and everyone got up and just flocked to the pizza guy like a bunch of hungry seagulls. The pizza dude was even more popular than the magician. Once the magician performed his finale trick everyone chanted “Draw the Door Prizes…Draw the Door Prizes” so we went straight into the door prizes and left everything else out that was organized. We were all pretty eager to get it over and done with so we can finally start the party at the Drum. The door prizes were pretty amazing, some hats, T-Shirts, Hoodies, an iPOD, a digital Camera and the grand prize was a Playstation 3. I wasn’t lucky enough to get any of it though.

As the winner went up to claim the Playstation 3, everyone else got up and left, racing to the party buses. On the bus everyone pulled out their drinks they had been concealing at COP and starting drinking, poll dancing, singing, screaming and yelling. The party had truly begun. Inside the drum, I went straight to the bar with Cam and we bought 4 drinks each 2 Jager bombs and 2 Rye and cokes. We downed the first Jager bomb, then the second right after which was a good way to start then a Rye and coke in each hand and we slowly mingled into the crowd. As the alcohol started to sink through to my blood, I flopped out a Canadian Flag, tied it around my neck and pretended to be Captain Canada and got everyone to write on it. It was a good idea but since everyone was wasted combined with writing in the dark, maybe it wasn’t. Some people didn’t know what they wrote while others wrote their confessions. But all in all it still makes a good memento.

By the end of the night, everyone was pretty drunk and all over the place, it was funny in a way because everywhere I looked people were hooking up left right and centre. I guess if you were going to hook up with someone at work, it was the night to do it before everyone parted ways for summer.

In many ways we’ve come to become one huge happy family where everyone has come to know everyone else and formed certain bonds with each other. Living and working together and now it was all over. It was kind of like graduating from High School and watching everyone move on with their lives and doing their own thing. But I am sure we will all be having one big massive reunion when everyone gets home from whatever they do.

*Sorry about the photos, need to get them off Tess before I upload them.*
