As I left off with the last entry, I finally made it to Freiburg after an exceedingly long day of over 12 hours of train travel. My friend Andrew, who's been studying in Freiburg since August, picked me up at the train station and I was more than ready to let someone else lead life for a bit.
The week I spent in Freiburg was very chill. We did a fair amount of hiking in the Black Forrest, because it's about 2 blocks from the city center, and yielded fantastic views of the city. Thursday was some sort of German holiday, so a group of us got ahold of bikes (most of which were borrowed) and biked to a nearby town to pick strawberries. After getting around 7# of strawberries for less than $10 (we made jam, shortcake and several other things!), we found a clearing next to a brook and spent the afternoon picnicking and skipping stones. Unfortunately I didn't take my camera that day, but the clearing had a background of mountains in the distance and a winding brook through woods... pretty picturesque.

Given that Andrew's still in classes, and that I have 3 online courses I'm working on this summer, we spent a reasonable amount of time dealing with school things. My last day in Freiburg, Andrew, his friend Mackenzie and I went to another nearby town for a wine festival. Lots of Germans and lots of wine.. it was a good time. The area around Freiburg is known for its wine, so it was very good wine and nice to wander booth to booth and try things from various vinyards. The next morning, it was on to Rostock.
