Expecting some great Northwest weather, we were disappointed to arrive in Portland amid record-breaking heat (95ish).  We had our first “couch-surfing” experience with a super-nice girl named Sarah, and enjoyed walking around the city.  Definitely a cool town and one that seems like a sweet place to live.

Leaving Portland we spent most of a day driving down the Columbia River Gorge, which is full of waterfalls.  We checked some of those out and also went into the Bonneville Dam hydropower plant.
