Attended three days of "The Ashes," a bi-annual test cricket match between Australia and England, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Highlights included:

Failing to wear the proper attire to access the Melbourne Cricket Club members entrance, and therefore having to purchase a $70AUD souvenir polo shirt.  (I thought I looked nice, but apparently one needs a collared shirt.)

Witnessing Shane Warne's historic 700th test wicket.  (For those familiar with baseball, a somewhat analagous situation would be seeing Nolan Ryan's record-furthering 5,000th strikeout.)

Seeing Hayden's and Symonds' (two Aussie batsmen) offensive partnership of about 280 runs.  (How about a basketball analogy -- like AI and 'Melo combining for 60 points if they ever see the floor together for the Nuggets.)

Enjoying the chants and antics of the "Barmy Army," a group of sun-burned, inebriated and passionate fans that travel with the English team to show their support.  "Every where we go...people ought to know...who we are...where we come from...we're from England...the mighty, mighty England...we're the Army...the Barmy Army."  Or something to that effect.

Eating a hot meat pie on a chilly summer day.

Watching the Aussies "tonk the poms," or beat the Brits.

Learning about the game my father loves from the man himself, and sharing the experience with him.

I never got the whole collar thing, but in Malaysia, you must wear collared shirts to enter the casino. As a result, all the men are in "batik shirts" (not sure why they don't go for polos..=). You may find batik shirts in Australia..and they look like collared hawaiian shirts..so just imagine the scene in a Malaysian casino...

Yumm....Meat Pies. There is an Australian Bakery near Euclid St. in ATL that makes those Aussie Meat Pies. - in case you got hooked on it while you were there. Have you tried the Bundaberg and Coke yet? The Bundi bear is awful cute.
