Trekking the Alps
From Annecy in Annecy, France on Feb 22 '07
Yesterday afternoon I went on a trekking excursion in mountains near Mont Blanc. Some similarities to cross country skiing - but alot more climbing up and down the mountain, using an apparratus that straps onto your shoes, shorter and wider than skis. Not snow shoeing - it was called Raquette something. Three other students and two guides from IFALPES. I wouldn't describe it as being too exilerating, but the view from up top the summit is gorgeous. I didn't bring runners or hikers to France, so ended up borrowing Jill's pair of NIKES which were soaking wet afterwards ^^ OH and one of the students, a guy from paris named Julienne, invited me and another girl to his place for supper tonight. I said yes but am rethinking that now, as I have to catch a morning train to Avignon tommorrow - a city in the Provence area.
Can't beleive time's reaching two weeks end. Annecy feels like home now and I'm enjoying it here so much. Another thing I've noticed about here - people aren't hustling and bustling early in the morning. I mean, shops and cafes don't open until 9 or 10, there's no big lineup of grumpy people waiting for coffee at 7am like at your local Timmy Ho's or SBUX. Yep I'm finally getting used to the shot glass sized coffees here. Thought of a large double double or grande latte boggles my mind.
