Rainy, flooded Jodhpur
From Rajasthan - the land of Rajput kings in Jodhpur, India on Jul 31 '05
What I remember of our visit of Jodhpur is rain, rain, and rain again over the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort overlooking the Blue City of Rajasthan. Our friends were ill (Montezuma's revenge) the day in which Dave and me visited the Fort. We were taken uphill by a lovely guy named something Singh (= belonging to the cast of warriors) that carefully explained us everything and we reached the fort with all flooded streets where people danced and sang and welcomed the Monsoon rain. The fort was very well preserved and its majesty was overwhelming. During our stay in Jodhpur, we had also the occasion to visit the Bishnoi villages nearby where local artisans worked. We bougth a durry, very colourful and beautiful which arrived at our house some months later (they told us it would have taken a month, but it was much much longer!!!. The web site of those artisans is www.rooprajdurry.com and they are a cooperative of many families working and selling things together. I believe a microcredit initiative is working there.
