Lazing on Lanta
From Round the world! in Ko Lanta, Thailand on Apr 24 '07

It took half a day to get to Ko Lanta, a large island to the south-east of Krabi, as they had stopped the ferry and I had to go by minivan instead. The van ride was longer (as it had to go round the coast to a short car-ferry, rather than straight accross the sea) and, not having many passengers, did a round of collections and deliveries in the area before finaly delivering me to my little resort.
I stayed in a lovely little place called BeeBee bungalows, as one of about three guests. The whole of the island was very quiet (which is why I went - I had been tipped off by some German girls in Khao Sok) as it is now the low season, stupidly hot and getting wet. I did almost nothing for the day and a half I was there. I walked along the beach both ways and read a whole book whilst lounging under little straw-thatched shelters overlooking the sea, drinking cool lemon and listening to the waves. Every now and again I wallowed in the water, although the shallow bits (where I stayed) were really quite warm. I'm not a great fan of hot baths on hot days!
It rained on the first afternoon, but cleared up to reveal some lovely cloudscapes before sunset. The second evening brought another lovely sunset after a clearer afternoon. After my dinner I spent the entire evening sitting on the beach watching lightening to the west and south-west, accompanied by a French gentleman. I (and he) was quite impressed at how much French I was able to remember and understand. Never expected Thailand to be the obvious location to be practising my German (Khao Sok) and French!
