Davos
From Europe '89-'92 in Davos Platz, Switzerland on Dec 31 '89
After two years in Herisau we moved about an hour away high into the Alps to a town called Davos. Located about 30 minutes from St. Moritz, Davos was a ski resort town and definatley had more of that feel to it. It wasn't quite as genuine Swiss of a city and was more geared toward the international scene. It was also the site of some international organization (UN-esque) that met there every year and placed the town on high-security for a good week each time. It was still an overall great place to live. I learned to ski while living here and also played ice hockey. It was really great for a kid to have a safe place to grow up as my friends (mostly Croatian refugees from the ongoing Yugoslav Civli War that had been allowed to settle in Switzerland) and I (aged 6-8 at this time) were pretty much free to roam around wherever we liked...and we did. Having mountains, snow, forests and all of that around to play in was a kid's dream. It was from here that we eventually returned back to California when my step-dad's hockey career was ended by injury.
