We had 5 glorious days on the island of Zanzibar, and got a chance to take a jeep round the island by ourselves. You wouldn't believe some of the roads, not much more than worn down coral outcroppings. But the blues, greens and aquas of the sea are so inviting, and there was a slight feel of being back in Morocco as most of the island is Muslim. The minarets ring with call to prayer, and men walk everywhere in long flowing robes wearing fez hats.

We spent a quiet evening on the east side of the islands, enjoying marvelous fish and a moonlit campfire over the ocean before going to sleep. Then it was up north to rejoin with the group and do a couple of great dives at the atoll off the northern tip. The beachside bars serve up fantastic fish buffets to the sounds of cool acid jazz as you swing in hammocks. Worth the trip if you can make it!
