Our stay in Budapest

9th March 07

Woke up at 7am. Had brekfast at hotel. was ok. Didnt have normal tea. Phil said coffee wasnt that nice either. No toaster. We are stayed on the pest side. There are 2 sides of budpaest. The buda side and then the pest side. They are spilt by the danube river.Walked to Heros square which also had the art gallery and art museum there. Caught a hop on/hop off sightseeing tour. As we were driving we saw the Zoo, thermal baths and a few other things on the pest side.  Drove across the chain bridge to the buda side. the buda side is hilly and the expensive side. We went to the castle district. Got off the bus and went and saw the Royal castle. Very impressive. We saw the  citadella, fishermans bastion and gellert hill. We walked around for about 1 and half. The views to the pest side were spectacular. It was foggy and raining. So it was hard to take photos. But we did take some and video tape. Countless monuments scattered around budapest. Got back on the bus and went back to hotel. Driver dropped us off close to our hotel as last stop was too far away and it was pouring with rain. Went to the supermarket and got some dinner. Went back to hotel. When we were at the castle district we ran in to a couple from melbounre and he lived in brunswick. Had to get clothes washed so we dropped them off at laundry place. Was a bit expensive but we had to get clothes washed. we were told our hotel was in a dodgy area but we found it ok apart from drunken men sleeping on the street after they came out of the pub.  Going to do some more sightseeing tomorrow. Going to see a cave.

10 march 07

Woke up at about 7 am. Had breakfast but this time we bought our own tea. So that was better. Went back to heroes square to catch the sightseeing bus again to go to the castle district to go to the labyrinth cave. Saw the same things again as we did yesterday driving there. The cave consisted of 8 caves/mazes dug under buda castle. The best being the labyrinth of courage. I had to have a torch from phils phone as it was very dark. We walked around it for a about a hr. Walked to the cable car and took it down the castle hill. We then walked across the chain bridge to the pest side (This crosses the danube river). Walked to the parliament buliding. It was all fenced off.  It was a nice buliding. Went and had chinese for lunch. It was nice food. Went to St. Stephens Basilica chruch. It was built in 1851. Its dome is 96m high. We went inside and it was awesome. Walked to the house of terror. We thought it would be a scary museum or something like that but it was a war tribute museum. Walked back to hotel. It was a long walk back to hotel. Taoday we walked for 6 or 7 hours. and covered approx 20km. We normally walk this much everyday or even more sometimes. Went to internet cafe but it was closed. Wasnt meant to be. Packed our bags as we are catching the train to prague tomorrow lunchtime. Just watched tv and went to sleep.

11th March 07

Woke up at about 7.30am. Had breakfast and took our own tea again. Tried to take a cup of tea back to room but the waiter told me not too. Phil took his anyway. Our room was right next to breakfast room. Dont know why we werent allowed too. Tried the internet cafe again but it was closed. Dont know how he makes money of he is closed all the time. We went to maccas and had coffee. Went back to hotel. I watched eastenders until we had to go. Left hotel at 12pm. Went to the Keleti train station to go to prague. Our train was leaving at 1.50pm Just hung aournd train station and had lunch there. Finally got on train. Wasnt that busy but then we stopped at Bratislava and a heap of people go on. Very packed train. If you didnt reserve your seat you had to stand up as all seats where taken. So there were people standing in the walk ways. Went to get a snack on train and found out they didnt have a snack bar only a dining room. So we had no dinner and no drinks on train for 6 hours. Phil watched a movie on the mp4 player and I read my book. Long trip. Crampy seats like in an aeroplane. Finally got to prague at 8.30pm. Had to find an atm then after asking 6 people we find out that they are called bankomats. Got money. caught a taxi to hotel called koruna. Walked in the room and saw 2 single beds!!! Had to go and get dinner. Couldnt find anywhere so we found a corner shop and phil had a pack of chips and I had 2 bananas and a pkt of chips. So nice healthy meal tonight. Watched a bit of tv. Only english channel is eurosport which phil was happy about. Went to sleep. Doing a walking tour tomorrow.
