The Group I'm Travelling With
From Wendy's South and Central American Odyssey in Ilha Grande, Brazil on Feb 21 '07
Ok, just a few words on who I'm with over the next few weeks at any rate. There are 14 in total, ranging in ages from very early twenties to an Austrian who is in is early 60's. Most are Brits, one Canadian guy, two Irish chicks, one Scottish lass, and one Aussie (me), and mercifully no boastful yanks. The group seems very well suited to this kind of thing, some having already been together for about six weeks on their trek up the Amazon. We all seem to click, which is a godsend considering I'm not used to being in such close proximity with people in this way over such a long time. They're a mostly well-educated, well spoken, very well-travelled bunch of folks that I'm pretty sure will turn out to be great friends.
Yes its only been a week so far, I know that, but I feel reasonably confident that we will all get along over the coming weeks and months with no trouble. There's no one that gets in your face (if you know what I mean), and there is ample opportunity to escape even if someone starts to bug you. For example, by sitting in another seat, changing with whom you sit with at dinner or brekky. That kind of thing. The guide Jose is Peruvian I think. He's a bit of a lad, and thinks all the women fancy him (cos he is pretty cute), but he's cool all the same, and very helpful! Mostly he leaves the group to their own devices after explaining the options about what to do in the area we stay in. So for example, today we could have taken boat rides, horse rides, bus rides which he organises if we want. Mostly I think people just are hanging around Paraty today to check it out....Its quite an amazing place. I'll organise some photos of the group over the coming weeks and months....
