Three Days on the Boat

Not the most exciting of times, but the scenery was gorgeous and I can't count how many whales I saw. Cruising the inland passage on the cheap means creative camping (one night was spent in the kids play area, I didn't envy the deck campers). Luckily I was with an experienced pro who knew to stock up on food. We had a cooler full of goodies to supplement the greasy cafeteria style entrees served in the dining hall. At least they had a microwave to make popcorn in. During the days I read a lot, did my daily laps around the deck, and spotted whales. Once we were told the tides meant we had to turn around for a while and try again, but it was impossible to tell what direction we were headed so I used my GPS - that was fun in a dorky kind of way. I arrived in Bellingham with just enough to time to race to the airport and walk onto my flight back to New Mexico. I recommend driving the Al-Can highway, and cruising the Inland Passage but I hear the Canadian ferries are much nicer!
