Our last minute decision to take a detour
From My Europe Trip in Paris, France on Jun 11 '06
So Sam and I decided that it would be a good idea to take a day trip to Paris. Monday night the US was playing the Cezcks, so we went into K-Town on Monday at 1 30, to book our train to Paris that night, and our ride home the next day. We booked it all, then went and proceeded to drink, while watching the Austrailians win a game in K-Town vs the Japs. The Aussie's went absolutely nuts, this was the first time that they had scored a goal in the world cup, nevermind got a victory. They won the 3 pm game, and when sam and I were leaving K-town at 12:30 that night, they were still in the streets partying like mad men. The whole town was all Aussies and they were partying like nobody else. It was so much fun, unfortunately sam and i had to watch as the American team got embarrassed by the Czeck's. But of course in at half time, they wanted to put on a half time show on stage in front of about 5 thousand fans. The woman walking around spotted me, in my USA rugby jersey, and USA flag hanging over my shoulders, 3/4 in the bag. And she decided that I would be a perfect candidate to be in a soccer dribbling contest. Of course they put me up against a jap, who played college soccer, but he said he was drunk, so naturally I asked him how much he had, 3 beers was his response. That is not even close to drunk. So we get up on stage, I am not sure of the rules, because of the language barrior. So we get up there, we have 2 min of me knocking the ball all over the stage, I knock over the big display case with all of there stuff in it, and then knock it into the crowd. So the final score was the jap 12 me 8, and the whole time I had this one person yelling mean things at me. I came to find out it was Sam, what a nice kid hugh?
Anyway, at 12:30 sam and I board a train to Paris, we have to stop in some tiny town in France for a 3 hour wait. We get there at 2 am, there is nothing open, so we, and the new aussie friend we met, just walk around the city and talk about everything. We never ended up asking the Aussie his name, even though we hung out with him for about 5 hours, so when he finally left us, he said goodbye, whatever your names are, have a fun rest of the trip. Kinda wierd talking to someone for 5 hrs straight, and not getting their name, but whatever, we are on to Paris. We get there at 9 am, we have one day to do Paris, but we stink so bad, cause it is about 85 and sunny here everyday, so we were in the sun all day, then train all night, we can just smell ourselves. Luckily we are going to be staying the night with a family that Sam's sister does exchanges with, and they have invited us to go shower there. We go, thinking there are only 2 children, because that is the info that Mr. Pond has provided. We meet a daughter who is not who we were expecting, then we meet a brother we have not heard of either.
The brother we meet is really nice, if he wasn't french you would swear he was gay, but he is french so we know he isn't. He decides to take us around all morning through Paris. He shows us everything, we got to Saint Chapelle, amazing church, used to be private to the King, then Notre Dame, then Pantheon, really cool again, then Latin District, then the campuses of Paris, of course it is hot again and Sam and I are sweating like the stinky Americans we are. Then we have lunch at a nice, but really expensive Cafe, of course we need to have wine and bread and sam orders meat, which comes raw. But then he leaves us and Sam and I are on our own till dinner at the house. We walk around hit another small chapel, cool, then we are off to the Louvre, which for some reason is closed on Tuesday, which sucks cause we bought a pass to skip all lines, but we walk around that, then walk down some beautiful garden in the middle of paris. We cross over and go to the Museam D'Orsay, we see Monet, Van Gough, and some others, then we are off over some famous bridge with statues. Then we are walking to the Arc D Truimph, of course when we get there it is closed because some stupid Iranians are protesting, there are cops, military, everything, and tourists all watchin this. Sam and I decide at this point it is 6 pm we have been awake for over 30 hours and walking for 9, we will go back to the house and watch the French Soccer game, and wait for 7 pm dinner.
We get to the house and the father is watching the game in the living room. We go into the living room, and it is very french, there are small chairs that are very uncomfortable and very old, so we sit for the first half, we are both passing out sitting up. So after the first half we go into my room I pass out and sam reads about paris. We get up for dinner, which is very French again, they have a cart, we start with Watermelon, then go to some pasta with some meat, then Pate and salad, then we have cheese, 4 types all very strong, one I can't even get down. Then we have pinapple with cream, bread is being served this whole time, and wine. The bread is great. After dinner we went to the Effiel Tower. My disliking of heights has really come out over this trip. We were only able to go to the second level of the tower, because we went at night, but that was way high enough. Sam was the picture taker, while I stood a good 5 feet from the edge and held onto every piece of metal I could find. We walked down one level, which was very scary, because you can see through the stairs. I was able to make it back down to the ground without going into tears, which was a victory for me.
We then went to a bar, got a beer to relax my nervs, then we went to a cafe and split a bottle of wine between the 3 of us. We forgot the kids name, and felt bad asking it again, so we just went through the whole day not knowing his name. Finally at 1 we went back, slept till 8 am, then got up, went to the Arch, and those damn Iraq demonstrators were up there again, having it closed down. So sam and I accepted defeat, went back to the house, then went to the Sacre Croix, spelling ?, hiked up there, dealt with pushy black frenchies trying to sell us their souls, saw it, it was cool, great view of the city, then went back got on a train at 12 30 to head back to Germany, because the germans were playing and K-Town was going to be off the Hizzy for Shizzy.
