Wow, what a city Mumbai is-more than a hundred newcomers seeking fame and fortune squeeze their way into the city every day, adding to the coffers of greedy landlords and placing the city, which already has a population density four times greater than New York City’s, on target for a population of 28 million by 2015. Located on the Arabian Sea with palm fringed beaches, Mumbai is India’s commercial capital, formerly known as Bombay. On our ride from the airport we saw beautiful skyscrapers, slums, the beautiful Victorian Gothic Railroad Station built by the British, the beautiful waterfront, crowds , slums, traffic, more slums, more traffic and more beautiful high rise buildings and lots of construction. It felt good to get back on the ship. I had planned to go back into the city to look around in the afternoon, but after getting off the ship and visiting a shop on the pier, I decided to come back for a rest. I am glad I did because I found there was a Protestant Easter Service being conducted aboard and was glad to join in the singing of, “Christ The Lord Has Risen Today-Alleluia.”
