I left Ottawa and so left Alice on Thursday the 1st of June. This is the first part of my journey where I really have to fend for myself! I caught the train down to Toronto, which was really nice, but unfortunately not terribly good for pictures as it rained for almost all of the 4hour journey! After my time in Toronto I am thinking of investing in a compass as I have found that I am even more atrocious at directions than even I had first thought! I went the wrong way so many times my fingers and toes put together couldnt count them all! Luckily I carried a map with me so I did eventually find my way to the places I wanted to go. The first night I decided to go to a free comedy evening, and not only did I go the wrong way but when I found the right street I was at 89 when I wanted to be at 554! I was determined not to be deterred and disheartened on my first real night alone so I battled on and had a really good night. I used my foriegn girl charms to score some free drinks and a taxi ride home (although I think I may have dissapointed my admirer somewhat when I returned his attempt at a kiss with a good old fashioned hug!)

The following day I did some chores (like get my tourist visa for brasil!), which took me I have since worked out an extra 3 hours due to my inability to simply ask where things are instead of just venturing off in hope! I ended up going to a socialist resistance screening of a film about the Venezualan Revolution that night which was quite interesting. Saturday was very very wet and so I went off to the museum,it was ok but nothing like the one in Ottawa. I returned to the hostel feeling a little lonely and sorry for myself that I was going to be spending Saturday night alone. Fortunately my lonliness soon turned around when I met two brasilian girls who invited me out with them for the evening. A swiss girl came along too and it was a really pleasant evening! The next day those same girls and two other girls from Malaysia and French Canada and I all went on a trek around the city. We had been told about some markets so we set off to find them and spent the afternoon wondering around. We then went to the CN Tower, which is the worlds tallest free standing building (for the moment at least) and watched the sunset. It was absolutely gorgeous! We then grabbed something to eat and said our goodbyes as the other were all leaving the next day. I had forgotten how many goodbyes there are when your travelling! But I now have some more contacts around the world so I guess it is all worth it! On Monday I went to the zoo. You see, I really wanted to see a real live moose. Unfortunately when I got there he was sitting under a tree a fair distance away, but I guess I still got to see him. The zoo was really nice, it was in a massive area, and most of the exhibits gave the animals quite a large space to run around in (well I guess its all comparitive, compared to what I have seen it was good). The zoo also had lots of naturally forested areas which gave it a really nice feel. I enjoyed it soo much that I ended up being too late to pick up my passport!
