I didn't know much about the Buddha but when i found out that his birthplace was near the Indian border on the way to Varanassi, i just couldn't pass through without having a look.

Lumbini is a lovely little spot as well, there isn't much to see but the grove where the buddha was born is very tranquil. I didn't try and reach enlightenment - i think i have a long way to go before that day arrives.

As soon as you cross that imaginary line all hell breaks loose

Another noteworthy experience in this part of the world - the border between Nepal and India. Now i am not saying anything negative about any nationality in particular but he difference a few metres makes! On the Nepalese side of the border everything was peaceful, relaxed and hassle-free, but as soon as you cross that imaginary line all hell breaks loose. People harassing you about everything and anything, buses, taxis, food sellers, tea merchants, tour operators, everything. We bought a ticket for the bus to Varanassi and we even had a fake conductor who tried fining us for having the wrong ticket until the real conductor kicked him off!

I had forgotten about the absolute mayhem of India and now i was back.
