Sniff Sniff, do i smell stinky BO ? Nope, that's Amsterdam, the amrpit of The Netherlands! Depending on your age, prepencity to smoke up, and how much you like the ladies you may agree or completely disagree. First of all, a great city to bike in, as with all of the Netherlands they have great bike paths everywhere, everyone and i do mean everyone bikes around. Rather unique to see a 70 year old couple in a suit and dress to be biking down the street to go out to eat, but then again what about this city is average? If your in town and can think straight enough to find your way, i would reccomend stopping by the Anne Frank house. Even if you have never read the diaries it's still amazing to see where these people lived in hiding for so long. If your into the museums your in luck as there's a great Remmbrant musuem in the southen part of the city, or so i've heard as i never got the chance to make it there. If your into that sort of stuff you'll have a blast, if not, no worries A-dam is an awesome city just to wander in as everything is in walking or biking distance, from the infamous red light district to Vondelpark to the Heniken Brewery. ( Also a must see if your a fan of the green bottled brew. ) Well, seeing as most of the hotels and hostels would shut down without what i call "narcotourism" i'll drop a lil info on the area. Now a days, if you bring up Amsterdam as a location of vacation you may get a few snickers as it's name preceeds it by a long shot. With over 350 coffeeshops and 250 smart shops it's near impossible to avoid the wafts of smoke or to go a day wihtout finding someone tripping on 'shrooms or some other "herb". if that's your thing, you'll be in heaven, that's if you remember being there. One word of advice tho, ask about anything before you try it and find out the effects and how long it will last. As with most places the touristy areas will be more expensive then elsewhere, so find an out of the way coffeshop to chill at instead of the ones in the red light district. Personally, i wasn't all to impressed with Amsterdam; was clean enough and the people were super friendly, *read stoned* but it's just not my thing. Want some clean air and nice countryside to go with relaxed and friendly townsfolk ? Head on out to any small town, rent a bike and take it all in. I promise you will get a better feel for The Netherlands then the absurbity that is Amsterdam.
