Zipaquira
From World Trip Cont... (Colombia) in Zipaquira, Colombia on Jun 26 '06
Went on a day trip outside of Bogota, with 4 new friends I met the night before at the hotel. The day started by trying to navigate the very useful Transmilinium bus system at rush hour, and then taking a bus to the town. While getting off, the Japanese guy with us felt a few hands grabbing into his pockets, luckily he had nothing to be taken.
When we got to town we had a to walk about 15 minutes to the entrance of the mine. Passing thru a market with all of the different types of exotic fruits possible here, we decided to be boring and for about 50 cents bought a full bag of delicious bananas.
Next we went to entrance of the mine. It was a great tour, by Columbian who could speak English really well. Basically they have made an old section of the mine into a Cathedral, and the stations of the cross. There is also a type of expo room for official meetings, even used by the president of Columbia.
After finishing the tour, we went into the town and walked around and had some lunch, and headed back to Bogota.
