Yet More Ranting
From Mel's Middle Eastern Mumblings in Tel Aviv, Israel on Feb 14 '06
How sad am I? The truth is it is far too cold in the hostel and I have been completely drenched on 2 occasions already today, so yet again I find myself here in the net cafe on Ben Yehuda street. Had a wander down Nahalat Binyamin street and onto even more exciting little streets, getting very lost, earlier (I'm seeing the similarities with Mos Eisley, Ryan, although sadly no Stormtroopers ) and got caught in a lengthy downpour, which I perservered through, to find my way back to familiar territory... which turned out to be Allenby street. I found shelter in a family run cafe, where the lovely hostess (I'd guess to be in her late 50s or 60s) seemed to take pity on my bedraggled appearance and youth... or something (they always do... seems like I have a neon sign above my head with MOTHER ME! written on it) and sat me down with an English menu, and told me after I'd eaten my delightful soup and drunk my coffee, that there was no rush for me to leave (it was still raining outside). I was in no rush to get soaked again, so I stayed a while contemplating life and thinking many profound thoughts, as only someone of my intellect can... ;)
Anyway, finally I paid up and took off (apparently she had a son studying near London. I was glowing with praise for London, as always), back into the gloom and walked a bit more; this time along the seafront, took a few photos in the small moment that the sun was out, before heading back to the hostel and calling Karen. She advised me to try a pub called Molly Malones for barwork. I'll do that tomorrow. I plan to book 3 more days at the hostel (which is deathly empty) and see what happens in the time between now and Sunday. I may head elsewhere then. Jerusalem, Haifa, or maybe Eilat. Not sure. I'm getting kind of fed up of being stared at gormlessly every time I exit the hostel, and on entry. Oh hey, wait a minute - maybe it's because I'm so darn unsociable... or MAYBE it's the result of being called 'sweet' by one of the people working there yesterday, because I said please and thank you.
Michael, I did hear some American guy talking loudly about places he'd been in Israel and it seemed like a bit of a brownie point contest, if ya know what I mean, so I'm not in any hurry to start talking to other backpackers. Guess I'll have to at some point. Sheesh, I'm such a snob.
One thing I've discovered, is try as you may... you cannot get away from Natasha Beddingfield. Darn.
Ok, I'm gonna look up the weather report for tomorrow. This rain is irritating me.
