Making friends at the Zoo

We’d heard so much about San Diego Zoo and it being one of the best in the world, and it certainly lives up to its reputation. We spent a fantastic seven hours here today – the zoo is set in Balboa Park, on various levels with moving walkways, in the most amazing clean and beautiful gardens you could imagine. We took the bus tour around the perimeter first, then the cable car that goes across the park and looks over the bear enclosures.

There’s about a dozen different restaurants and cafes around the Zoo, and all reasonably priced, although the portions are huge (yet again!).

The other thing we’re noticing as we travel around is that the Americans celebrate Halloween much more than we do. The whole period extends from 29^th September through to 31^st October, and they decorate EVERYTHING – houses, streets, Disneyland … and the Zoo! It’s actually hard not to get wrapped up in the whole thing, and certainly Jackie’s taken to the Starbucks special of the month - pumpkin & cinnamon milkshake (ugh!)
