We are staying in Havar, an island off of Split, Croatia. Our story arriving:

We arrived in Korcula at 12 pm on Thursday during a storm from Dubrovnik. The ten minute walk to the hotel was more like 30 minutes. The hotel is the only one open in town and it’s hard to believe they are open, the heat isn’t on and none of the services are available. They had to open the kitchen to fix us an omelet for lunch. When asked about the heat the hotel manager suggested we use blankets.

We're on the island of Hvar - Quite a story getting here

We soon learned that nothing in this hotel worked. It was even too cold to get a shower, so we decided to catch the first ferry out the next morning to Hvar. The ferry left at 0600 in the morning and after getting up at 0445 and trekking back the 30 minutes to the harbor we boarded. We had three flights of stairs to the main cabin (with our luggage), which once again was like a smoking parlor.

We arrived in Hvar at 0730 walking directly to the Hotel Palace which managed a room for us one day earlier than our reservation. Nothing like a change in weather and friendly staff to change your attitude.

We have spent the days in Hvar hiking around the city, enjoying sun and reading in the afternoon. This morning we were treated to a Palm Sunday procession to the old church in the square. We will have spent four days here basking in the sun and wishing the water was warm enough to swim. Our original itinerary included several islands in Croatia, but we will end up spending all our island time in Hvar.

We are off Tuesday on the first catamaran  at 0600 for Split on the mainland, catching a flight in the afternoon from there to Rome.
