We decided that the best way to get out of Paris was to take the bus (le bus) to the car hire place in Montparnasse and then drive back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and then drive back to Montparnasse because our driving directions on the palm computer showed us how to depart from Paris from Montparnasse.Good plan but execution not good. Two hours later we managed to get on the road to Dijon only to discover that we could have got onto the freeway from our hotel in about 2 minutes - sacre bleu

We had decided to do the trip avoiding the tolls but discovered that this makes the trip significantly slower because you have to go through all the small towns and if you decide to look around some of the bigger ones it can be difficult to find your way out again.

Depart Paris

We decided to hit the highway and get to Dijon before it got too late. Dijon turned out to be a great place to visit. The tourist information office was very helpful in finding accomodation and we were soon checked in and ready to explore. They have a walk where you follow signs on the footpath and they give you a brochure with interesting information about each historical site - amazing buildings and fabulous streets with shops and apartments in ancient buildings.

We stopped halfway for a beer and campari break and then continued until it was time for dinner which was quite late by our standards. We met some Aussies who were working on one of the tourist barge cruises.
