I spent a week there one day.
From Looking for America in Toledo, United States on Aug 03 '06
Boy. John Denver wasn't kidding. They really do roll up the sidewalks precisely at ten, and the people who live there are not seen again. In a word, Toledo is BORING.
We started the day by checking out Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s racecar. Pretty cool! We went by the Colts stadium, got yelled at by some locals...you know, the usual. Unfortunately, the crowd in town for the race kept us from getting over to the track, but it's probably just as well...they get pretty rowdy. We left Indy and headed up to South Bend for a quick stop at Notre Dame University. Ben wanted to see the stadium and the campus. Jessie wanted to see Quasimodo, but apparently that's not the right place. (I guess not every place is a Disney movie.)
We cruised across northern Indiana and entered Amish country. Again. But THIS time was different! We saw about 15 buggies, and about 30 Amish folk. Apparently, today was Market Day. And by that, we mean we happened to pull over at a nearby Dollar General store, and shopped alongside a whole village of them. They bought balogna, batteries, soap, all kinds of normal stuff. It was an educational experience, to say the least. Ben even spoke to some. They were all very friendly, and one family even honked their little buggy horn for us in the parking lot when they saw our "Honk for the Bride" message on the window.

Here in Toledo, we found our hotel...literally in the middle of a corn field. So Jessie got out of the car, and stole some. ("Friends, Ohioans, countrymen, lend me an ear!") It was easily the highlight of Toledo.
