Tom and I got up at 4:45 a.m. this morning so that we could avoid rush hour in Manhattan while traveling to our next campsite location. When making reservations a month or two ago, Tom could only get two nights at the Nickerson Beach Campgrounds. Our third night near New York City would have to be at the Liberty View Marina and RV park in Jersey City, New Jersey. To get there, we had to drive the RV right through Manhattan. Talk about feeling out of place! We took the Holland Tunnel under the Hudson River and into Jersey City. The 50 mile trip took us only about two hours. Not bad. It also brought us very close to our next site ~ the Statue of Liberty. Yes, we actually had a view of the Statue of Liberty from our campsite. Interesting to note though, the campsite was more like a parking lot with electrical hook up.

We took a ferry to Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and Manhattan today. Most of our day was spent touring Ellis Island and viewing the Statue of Liberty. The ferry to Manhattan brought us very close to Ground Zero. Ground Zero looks a lot different from the last time Tom and I saw it about five years ago. A new building is going up at the site. The construction is still at the basement and subway levels.

From Ground Zero we took a subway to Time Square where we dined at the Dallas BBQ. Great place to eat. It was nearly dark by the time we left the restaurant, about 8:30 p.m. The girls were mesmerized by the bright lights and hustle and bustle of traffic and people. They were suddenly in shopping mode. We went into a few stores, including Hello Kitty and Toys R Us.

Taylor talked Tom and I into taking her and Megan to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum. Ripley’s bright lights were calling her name! By the time we left Time Square it was nearing 11 p.m. We decided to take a taxi from Manhattan to Jersey City, as we were too tired to try to figure out the subway and train system back to Jersey City.
