A smelly city of sulfure water.
From A smelly city of sulfure water. in Aachen, Germany on Jan 19 '06
Ok so the last place we went was Aachen in Germany. Yes to say it you spit a little. I remember making fun of kelly when she would have to speak russian, by saying something about her spitting, but the reality is ITS THE DUTCH WHO SPIT! So after I came to this realization I tried it myself and its not so bad. Anyway, we were dropped off in downtown Aachen next to a mall. We had hired a tour guide to show us around the city. We went to meet them.
The broke us up into 2 groups, and then we were off. We learned a lot about Charlemagne and the history of the city. It was a huge bath house back in the day because of its natural springs. He told us how it is really healthy for you to drink, and they have a fountain where people come to take the water by the glass full. So we all tried it even thought it smelled like eggs. It was a little salty, but more or less it tasted just like eggs. It was also steaming hot. Some people would come and fill up water bottles with it.

Then we went around the city. They have lots of churches and out of all the churches we have seen yet, this place had the prettiest. Then I was talking to Daan (they dutch kid taking us around) and he said these are nothing compared to Italy. So I'm looking forward to that trip. While we were touring the city, we saw a french cafe called "Muthrafuck." I am not making this up, I have a picture of it. So that was interesting. We also tried some candy they made in the city which was different but good. I would like to mention that throughout the entire tour the wind was blowing extremely hard and it was freezing. I was definitely under dressed. Everyone was numb in their head, ears, feet, hands, legs, you name it it was numb. So we were happy to finish up. At the end he told us about the church and they always have mythical stories about the devil and such. So he told us one of those and then we were on our own.
We all kind of broke off to find places to eat. I ended up getting some really cheap (4.8 EURO) pasta. It was really good, but I don't think you supposed to get pasta in Germany. We quickly ate and then it was back to the bus for a quick nap and back to the Guesthouse. I really want to get out some photos of my room so I will try to do that soon. I don't know if I have mention this, but the Guesthouse is actually an old hospital, and there are still some specialized Dr.'s here today. Its a little different.
