Sailing the Sogenfjord
From A trip a month in 2008 in Flam, Norway on Sep 13 '08

From Oslo, we took the train to Bergen where we boarded a boat to Flam. The journey cruised us down the Sogenfjord, and it was spectacular. We had never seen fjords and although at first thought they would probably just like mountains with water between them, we soon learned to love them. Don't get me wrong, they are just mountains with water between them, but they are breathtaking and the farther in you go, the steeper the mountains and the deeper the water.
The trip was just about 3 hours and every minute of it was full of natures beauty.

Once we arrived in Flam, we went for a big hike, hoping to find even more beauty. As we approached Flam on the boat, we noticed that there was waterfall above the town. After checking in to our lovely hotel, we hiked up to the waterfall. It was a hard hike, but it was worth every minute. The fall was beautiful, but the view of the town was even better!
From there we hiked down and then went to the original location for the town of Flam. To be honest, there was nothing much to see, but an absolutely beautiful old wooden church. From the outside it looked pretty big, but when we went inside there was probably only room for about 20 people.

After we got back to the hotel, we went for dinner and then turned in early. We were absolutely exhausted from all of the fresh air. It was the kind of air that hurt your lungs when you took a deep breath - it was awesome!
