Monte Carlo Casino
From 6 Months around the world 07/08 in Monte Carlo, Monaco on Oct 17 '07
We caught the bus from our hostel in Nice to Monaco today. The bus stop was right in the heart of town, a hundred or so metres from the Monte Carlo casino. We walked our way thru the centre, initially along the trade mark chicanes and tunnel that the the grand prix runs thru every year. From the tunnel we came out at the top of the port, some huge luxury yachts in here, the type that in the $100 mil plus price range. The number of outrageously huge boats is only matched by the number of Ferraris on the roads, one of the benefits of living in a tax haven i guess. We did a small bus tour of the city for about half hour or so, nice to rest the legs, and got alot of info from the audio guide onboard. We wondered through a few more side streets and ended up back near the Monte Carlo casino. Since we are here we decided to try our luck in the casino, pokies are the only area plebs like us can get into, so we put a few dollars in a Tabasco themed machine and then a Star Wars one. No luck, but had some fun with machines that seem more like a game than a pokie. Monaco is only a small place, so not all that much to see or do, probably need to come back with a spare few million dollars to live the James Bond lifestyle its famous for.
