Well, the plan was to pick up a car in New England and drive round for a week. I took the AmTrak out of Penn Station, NY and headed north, first to New Haven the up to Hartford. I thought this would be a convenient place to pick up a car before heading for the Litchfield Hills. Turned out to be a right polava! The car rental place was at the airport - 12 miles north of Hartford so there was a lot of shuttling to be done before I finally picked up the car and set out, very cautiously at first on the country roads round Litchfield. Beautiful wooded rolling hills all around.
