Weekly Summary:
During this week the time that I spent in the office was a bit slow, but I was able to take advantage of this free time by working on some of my class assignments. In the office I was also given the opportunity to work with victims of identity theft and fraud. Not only was I able to work with these victims over the phone, but I was also able to help a victim in the office. I enjoyed communicating with victims personally because it gave me a better idea of what the detectives do everyday. I was also able to understand why it is so important for the police to have effective communication methods with the public.

When I was able to get out of the office this week, I had a lot of great experiences. By visiting Harbor Patrol and going on a ride along, I was able to learn more about the different responsibilities that the police have in the MPD. It was not until I visited Harbor Patrol that I realized that patrolling the water is a very important job in Washington DC since there are two rivers that border DC.
On Friday, I had one of the most influential experiences so far in DC. The tour of the United States Holocaust Museum opened my eyes, not just to the Holocaust, but many other injustices that are happening in today’s society. I realized that police officers can be affected by policing agencies, as well as the society that they are living in. Sometimes it is possible for people in a society to affect an officer’s decision making skills in such a way that an event such as the Holocaust can happen if there are not safeguards put in place. It is important for people, especially police officers, to question the orders that are given to them and not just carry out plans that were not thought through fully.
Weekend:
This weekend my dad came down to visit me. On Friday night we went to the Washington Nationals baseball game at their new stadium. The game was fun and they actually won a game which is rare for them.
On Saturday morning we went to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Since it has not rained in quite a while the gardens were not as impressive as they usually are supposed to see, but it was nice to spend most of the day outside. Later in the night I went to the memorials and monuments again at the National Mall. After all of the walking we came back and ordered some pizza and went directly to sleep. I spent most of Sunday catching up on sleep and doing some homework for my night class.
