Gotta love Boston

After Chicago, we wanted to spend a couple of days in Boston to begin our New England adventure.

We had a great first day which included a trolley tour to learn about the city. It still amazes me that over 2/3 of Boston is built from landfill. Unbelievable. We then strolled through much of the key areas of the city including Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the waterfront. We then took a cruise of the harbor, had a beer at a great Irish pub (no shortage of them here) and spent our evening eating our way through the Legal Sea Foods restaurant – excellent crab cakes and spicy calamari!

The following day we took a walking tour of the Freedom Trail, checked out “Ahts in the Park” which was a local art fair, and strolled through the Italian North End for a great slice of za and for dessert, we skipped the canoli and opted for a great cupcake at LuLu’s . We also really enjoyed some New England “chowda” in Faneuil Hall which was excellent. Gotta love the Boston accent! Unfortunately, the Red Sox weren’t in town so no game at Fenway for us this time around. Instead, we strolled around the beautiful and historic grounds of Harvard University .

For our final morning we drove up the coast to Marblehead which is a charming little fishing town with many beautiful historic colonial homes and cute little shops and galleries. There also happens to be a place called the Barnacle which serves the best lobster rolls which we enjoyed for lunch!

Tidbit of of the day: Just a piece of useless trivia here…..did you know that the portrait shown on the Sam Adams beers isn’t in fact Sam Adams, but Paul Revere. Sam apparently wasn’t an attractive man and wasn’t worthy of being on the beer label. Funny enough, the same goes for the statue of Sam Adams in front of Faneuil Hall in Boston in that it's not the likeness of Samuel Adams, but of someone else that was found to be more attractive for the statue.
