Our time in Bentota was relaxing: lounging by the pool at the Bawa designed Bentota Beach Hotel, walking on the beach or playing in the surf. The pool is neat, there are boulders built into the bottom and sides, giving it a semi wild look. There was an elephant chained to a tree on the grounds at the hotel, as stated by the hotel: "An elephant works at the hotel, he gives people rides."

We walked about one day searching for the central bazaar, but we were led astray by touts, who misguided us and sent us down the wrong street. One in particular was stubborn and walked with us a long way, suggesting that the market was just ahead, just ahead. We took the lazy way back and rode a catamaran, powered by 2 oarsmen. We were lucky to spot a cobradagoya (big snake eating lizard) crossing some ones yard and caught a few photos of him on the prowl.

Sri Lanka was hosting the World Tourism Day this year, and we caught the mountain bike race through town. We did not stick around for the big beach party though. On the way out of town, we took a rickshaw to the Beavis Bawa house and garden called Brief garden for a tour. It was a pleasant garden, and better yet we spoke with the family that lived in the house now. Their house was well decorated with pictures from the Bawa brothers' past and sculptures from visiting artists.
