Today was sooo much smoother, now all lessons in full swing in the new school! Yay! Was helping in the kitchen this morning, getting an expert at taking the coconut out of a coconut shell for coconut milk! Takes strength grinding it out! Strange though because after blending it the coconut isn’t actually used! Think a coconut cake is in need of – can’t be wasting that now!

A sewing project group was started today in the old school, which we were able to see start and have breakfast with the ladies there. While we were there, there was a like a carnival float with a band playing, followed by a parade of at least 10 tuc tucs (3 wheeler cars with no doors!). Was so random! Don’t know whether it was a protest?! No one seem to be able to explain to us either, oh well!

Now our try... oops it ended in hugging the tree!

Excitement came when 2 coconut trees were pulled down! Ok so I didn’t actually climb a coconut tree, but made it look like it! Hehe! The trees had to be taken down as the coconuts could land on the children at any time – very scary! Already 1 landed on the driver’s windscreen 2 weeks back and another one breaking tiles on the new school’s roof, so it was a priority! Great effort was involved cutting it down with such huge roots to get hold of, before it could be pulled down with rope! We were all fascinated by it!

In the afternoon, instead of us taking over the children, we were pleasantly surprised when we found out that it was a talent show for the older children instead. They were really good with singing, dancing and comedy sketches (which we would have found funny I'm sure if we knew Sinhalese!). They were so confident, passionately doing what they enjoyed! Even the boys' solo singing their little hearts out to what seemed like love songs!

It's great to have an afternoon in the week (every Wednesday) that brings all the children together!
