Marissa sent us off from San Francisco with bellies full of hops.  Public transport to the airport was  fabulous, and all of our flights were on time.

We arrived in Quito around  10 this morning after a sleepless night, and our friend Ruth and her mom Lupita  picked us up from the airport.  We checked into our hostal  (which exceeded expectations) and proceeded to sleep for the next 5 hours.

learn spanish, swing from the trees like the monkies that we always knew we were, encounter furry spiders as big as our heads, and swim with the pihranas!

As soon as we got up, the nice owner offered us two for one beers, and well, how could we resist?! (it is 530pm here, and we are on vacation.  . .)

It is cooler here than in Davis, but not raining like weather.com said that it would be, and so far the altitude hasn´t bothered us.  (granted, we haven´t tried to lug our packs anywhere yet. . .)

Tomorrow we head to the Amazon to learn spanish, swing from the trees like the monkies that  we always knew we were, encounter furry spiders as big as our heads, and swim with the pihranas!  We´ll be out of contact until we return in a week, so you can expect another kim and brian  fix in about a week! We´re hoping for some  fun adventures!

It was good to hear from you. I've never used a web site like this. Everything is a new experience. Glad your weather is better than expected. We've been horrible hot. The Lodi Grape Festival, poor cousin to the CA State Fair is this coming weekend. Take care. Keith

I want to hear all about the Amazon experience! Were the snakes and spiders really that large? How did you survive a week without a shower??? Sounds like the bus ride was trecherous...Yikes! Keep us up to date with your adventures when you can. We miss you...a lot! We send our love.
