A Piece of the Mother Road

From miles away, we could see the top of the Gateway Arch that stands on the banks of the Mississippi at the entrance to St. Louis, Missouri. The 630-foot stainless steel structure designed by Eero Saarinen was so much more stunning in person than we had ever imagined, as the steel caught the colors and light of the city skyline and river.

We took a small detour from the Interstate to visit a piece of the Mother Road, Route 66, and one of its famous landmarks - Ted Drewe's, a frozen custard & Christmas tree stand. There we tasted the famous "concretes" - thick frozen custard made from scratch on the premises.

Now on to Kansas...
