I went to Gallipoli. I saw the shores where the troops landed and the high rocky plains they climbed. It was emotional to be there and see so many tomb stones named and unnamed and know there is a connection to my country and my people. You begin to understand the conflict and the emotions behind these neighboring countries that experience this constantly. It was very different though, sweet because the Turks and the Australian-New Zealand, English and Canadians all share a mutual respect for the event even though they were fighting on different sides.

I found it interesting that the Australians and New Zealanders demanded silence and respect for the single war that ties them in some way, yet in all the churches and Mosques we visit and the battles of Foreigners; they laugh and giggle and are disrespectful.

Turkey is interesting. The people are more inviting of foreigners than the Greeks because they need them for the economy. They asked questions and laughed, but i felt a little uncomfortable by how different it was; just the strange looking people and the strange set up. Also the poverty shock me, but I adjusted to it after some time.
