Bienvenido a Miami, Now Drive to Islamorada and Relax
From Florida Keys and Miami in Tavernier, United States on Sep 12 '07
We landed in Miami near 10pm after a long delay at Reagan National. We picked up our rental car in a torrential rainstorm and headed down to Tavernier on Islamorada in the Upper Keys. The drive was about an hour and a half and took us past some of the seedier sections of Miami. By the time we got to the Key highway, it was dark as could be. I saw more stars than I have seen in a long time. We checked in to our hotel close to midnight and went right to bed. We dove both Friday and Saturday mornings starting at 8:00am. In the afternoons, we enjoyed the pool and took naps. Saturday night we got all dressed up and went out to dinner at a restaurant we'd seen near the dive shop. Sunday we checked out at noon and drove north to Miami. On the way we stopped for lunch and watched the football games for a while. Tavernier is quieter than Key West by far, but I would definitely return. We had a wonderful time and got nice tans -- even Gretchen, thanks to her self-tanning sunblock. Seriously?! Yes. Seriously.
