I got back to Ohrid and headed to my apartment.  The old man and his wife asked me where I went, and I told him about Vevcani and Struga.  I then pulled out my Vevcani passport which garnered a loud, hysterical reaction.  They basically shooked their heads at the harmless independent Vevcani crowd.

I went downtown to watch the sunset on the lake, one of the best sunsets I have ever witnessed.  The lake was so calm, only disturbed by the occasional kayaker.  Numerous families and couples were sitting lakeside, taking in the sensational view.

I got some grilled, salted corn on the cob, one of my favorite snacks of all time (although best in the Greek Isles).  The locals were out in full force, packing the restaurants and cafes, circling the numerous street performers.

I sat down at an outdoor cafe and ordered a Skopsko, an above average Macedonian beer.  I watched the young throngs pass by, ready to party into the night.  Unfortunately I didn't have it in me to last all night, so I instead took a long walk throughout the old town and watched the numerous clubs quickly fill up.

I took the fifteen minute walk back to the apartment, and, again, woke up the old man so he could let me in.  In the morning I was off to mysterious Albania.

Beautiful photos of Ohrid. Plus your descriptions and your experiences are amazing. Wonderful combination indeed. I will be in Struga and Ohrid in 3 weeks' time. I must admit if it isn't because I have a Macedonian friend encouraging me to visit, I would never have heard of these places, nor would have planned to venture out that way. I was in Bulgaria two weeks ago, it has awesome mountains and lakes and caves (eg the Devil's Throat) We will be staying at Camp Lavisdita, in Struga. Not sure what it will be like, but I am game .... :-) Cheers for taking the time to share your travel adventures. It sure makes a difference (perhaps even offer us some assurance?) to me. Lonely planet barely had 5 pages on Macedonia, won't you believe?!?!? Mags
