Leaving Ennis I had to go over a pretty good pass over the Gravelly mountains. A lady took some pictures of me. I wasn’t sure it was of me until I got closer and she said thanks and something about transportation study and drove off. Should have asked her to send me a copy. A long lovely down hill to Virginia City.
It's an old mining town and the original territory capitol from the days of the big Alder gulch gold rush. The whole town is a sort of living history piece. The buildings that aren’t being used as cute old timey businesses-a candy shop, dress maker, photography, gold panning etc.- were set up as displays of blacksmiths, shoe makers and printers. Just down the road, Nevada City is an entire living history museum. I didn’t go through. I guess they’ve used the place to shoot a number of westerns including pieces of Return to Lonesome Dove.

I stayed in Twin Bridges and spent most of the evening cleaning my chain and gears. Every time I stand up I get black slime all over my right leg and it never really washes off.
