Giants Causeway
From K&J's EUROPEAN TRIP in Ballintoy, United Kingdom on Sep 05 '07
Today was an amazing day. We woke to the crashing of the waves- a bit hard to take really! We found another free internet café where we basically spent all morning- as you do when you can. From there we headed back to the bank in Coleraine and rang an Aunty of one of Jules’ mates (Tim L from home-country NSW) to arrange to meet up as they are from Northern Ireland and lived very close by. Tomorrow for lunch is all planned. Then, due to the typical Irish signs and directions, we drove around in a few circles before finding our campervan man whop we wanted for his professional advice for Wikki. Bless his heart- he fitted us with a new gas fitting and bigger and cheaper gas bottle and would not accept any payment for it. Mitchell his name, what a wonderful man as we have found many of them here in this beautiful country. Now being mid arvo, we decided to head for the Giants Causeway- something we’d both been dying to see after doing a read up ages ago. Words truly cannot explain how we felt exploring this amazing natural wonder of the world. The scenery around it was beautiful enough let alone these rocks that you would swear were hand carved into near perfect hexagonal shapes and placed by man. This obviously not being the case. One thing we love here is also the folk tales that go along with the landscapes. This one being about a battle between an Irish Giant and a Scottish- it just makes it all the more mysterious. We spent near 2 hours here and even then it was a struggle to leave as its very easy to sit and watch the seaside. The walk back was a bit of a struggle (how did we climb that massive mountain- we’ll never know!) and Jules was devastated when seeing the ice cream shop at the top had closed. However we gained ourselves 2 pint beer glasses around the corner after a quick drink. The best camp spot ever popped up around the corner and once again we found ourselves watching another amazing sunset. So beautiful with a nice fresh breeze making it’s way thru the van. This is what a holiday is really all about- appreciating every moment.
