Bláa lónið

Paul was feeling the strains of so much driving so it seemed quite appropriate our next stop was Bláa lónið (or, Blue Lagoon) geothermal spa. Nice, relaxing. Just what we needed. The smell of sulfur as you approach it is quite strong and knocks you sick, thankfully it doesn't take long until you get used to the smell. It was absolutely freezing outside but the water was so warm [about 37/39 C]. The colour of the water was so lush and the surroundings just made it all seem quite surreal. Paul attempted to teach me how to swim, never going to work. I really could have stayed in there all night, but it was getting dark and late so we forced ourselves out after a.. long time. Before heading back to ReykjavÃk we went for a little drive around GrindavÃk. As with most places in Iceland, there doesn't seem much to do there.
Getting out of bed. At 5am? Madness. Though, we had a 0530 coach to catch back to KeflavÃk. The weather was really bad and got a lot worse once we reached the airport. Our flight was due to depart at 9am.. it didn't until just before noon due to some sort of blizzard.
As with most places in Iceland, there doesn't seem much to do there.
